a hat, a feather, a few of my favourite things

Pants: Urban Outfitters
Top: Thrifted, Vancouver, Used House of Vintage
Shoes: Thrifted, Guelph
Necklace/bracelets: Hattitude Jewellery
Rings: Pawn Shops, flea markets
Hat: Aldo

How this outfit came to be Hattified: I wanted to wear this hat. This hat is already 'out there' enough, as I was walking down the street, I did get a few looks. Not sure if they were looks of "awesome hat" or "weird hat"but I love this hat. I love it's floppy exterior and it's feather piece. I love the colour which is a spectacular blue/grey. I threw on some jeans to make the outfit casual, and put this wicked vintage cropped sweater with the high waisted pants.

Why this outfit works: The top has the same colour scheme as the hat. The brown in the top ties in the brown feathers in the hat. The high waisted jeans update this outfit and make it casual at the same time. When your wearing a hat out and about town, and don't want it to be dressy, it's important to keep it casual. Unless you're at the horse race, or high tea....to pull off a hat, it's best to wear it casually.

Another Version: If you don't want to draw to much attention to yourself, you could always lose the hat (although I personally think it makes the outfit). Floppy hats, or any type of hat, are wild and going to be all over people's heads this season I think. When I get back to Ontario, I'm probably going to be sporting my fedora a lot.

Did you have a good weekend? I finally saw Braveheart and Pulp Fiction this weekend. Two movies made in the 90's that I seem to have missed out in my younger years. Braveheart was awesome. It made me so proud to have scottish roots! Now when I wear my kilt (all my brothers and cousins have the armstrong clan kilts, given to us by our grandma) I'm going to feel even more proud of the scots and their warrior like instincts and attitudes.

  1. All I can say is I absolutely love, love, love this whole look Hattie!! That hat is killer, I'm such a hat lady it's probably too much at times, but I would wear this one in a heartbeat! You really know how to put the perfect outfit together - the sweater and shoes also too pretty for words:) Braveheart is my husband's favorite movie of all time...hehe, I seen it million or so times. Have the most lovely of weeks darling gal and hopefully that box arrives sooner than later. xx Marisa

  3. Can you believe I still haven't watched Braveheart in its entirety? I saw the very first opening scene when from what I can remember, the wife gets raped and killed. I was just too horrified already haha. I don't have much of a stomach for that kind of stuff, yet somehow I love gangster movies?? Who knows haha.

Love this look, the shoes are amazing and I love all those bracelets stacked together!

  4. I love hats in general and yours in specific! You look fantastic, and the remarks about why the outfit works (and tips on how to similarly style ourselves) were helpful.
