Have a boo-tastic Halloween!

Boo

Here's what I'm wearing for Halloween, the day of the dead. Stripes, orange, and cats! Inspired by a friend of mine who loves cats, and themed outfits. Check out my skull earring studs as well. Awesome sauce.

Please bare with me while my photo quality is not up to snuff and while I figure out how to take photos inside. Any tips would be so appreciated! I have a canon, with a kit lense, a zoom lense, and a 2.8F lense...but still...it's not going so well. Do I need a flash? Help! Hurricane Sandy and the pure cold are stopping me from taking some great photos outside. Perhaps I'll just have to wait for the sun to come back.

Hope you are all having a wooonderful and boo-tastic Halloween!

The perfect bracelet for the perfect day! Doesn't it remind you of The Nightmare before Christmas? (Plus it's great for your little black or silver dresses come the winter months!)

a new locket in the shop

What I wore:
Shoes: Chez Thrift
Tights: American Apparel
Blazer: Club Monaco
Sweater dress: Hannahs Closet
Locket necklace: Coming to my shop soon!
boy is it hard finding a place to take photos since Hurricane Sandy decided to breeze near London, ON. I'm glad to hear no one has been too tragically hit by her. Keeping those in mind that have been hit by her and supporting the Red Cross.
I took these photos wondering around the inside of my building. The rooftop lounge, the alleyway to outside etc. It's hard getting the lighting and for it not to be blurry, yet still light enough. Any tips for shooting indoors?
Tonight we're going to the Lost Souls Stroll. Which is a theater group, Fringe putting on a haunted walk throughout downtown. I'm so excited. I LOVE Halloween.

P.s. I just got a new iphone 5...never owned one before. Any tips or tricks or cool apps I should be downloading let me know! I'm slowly working my way through it. Add me to instagram for cute photos of my cat and of course to see where the magic happens in my studio @hattitudejewels

p.p.s have you started your christmas shopping yet? I know it's still tons early? But if you love perusing the internet and love having packages delivered to your doorstep then check out my shop for handmade items using new and vintage recycled pieces. New pieces being added daily. Happy shopping. www.GotHattitude.com

windy breezy park playin' that kind of day

What I wore:
Shirt: Winners
Shorts: from Vancouver
It was a windy, breezy, warm, park playin'...that kind of day, day. It was over 20 degrees in London, Ontario yesterday. I busted out the shorts and no sock attire. We took some photos and then later played some catch and football. It was just such a beautiful day we did not want to leave the park. We live right across from this great park, so it was easy to get lost in the day.

The weekend is finally here. I am SO excited. Some friends are coming up from my home town to spend the weekend, see a concert, and do up London for Halloween. It's going to be great. Any special plans this weekend? We are seeing Dan Mangan in concert. If you have not heard him. Check him out. Click here to listen to one of my favourite songs. He's a quirky muscian who never writes about love songs. Hence this song is inspired by the 80 gangs music videos and fighting over robot wars in back alleys. His voice is really soothing and it's fun!

leather skirts

What I wore:
Boots: The sentimentalist, London, ON
Skirt: Pre- Loved, Toronto
Sweater: Thrifted in Guelph
Belt: Mom's old one

Good morning blogosphere.
I love this outfit, for the skirt. There is something awesome about a leather skirt, especially with this season being all about the leather. This one was re-done using old leather skirts by a company in Toronto, called Pre-loved. They redesign clothing into new items, using old materials, very similar to the work I do with my jewellery. They just recently signed a contract with roots, anthropology and the bay! Congratulations Pre-Loved. You deserved it.

I put this sweater and necklace with it so it doesn't look too 'motorcycle babe' with my lace up booties. This is a new necklace I wanted to show case today. It'll be up in the shop tomorrow so keep your eye out. Doesn't the belt just add a splash of fun? While the heart tights keep it fun and girly.

Have a great rest of the week! Do you have any halloween plans?
Me and my dude are going as a team... I'll post pictures (it's easier for you to see who/what we're being). What are you going as?

Small Biz Saturday - shop and save

Canadian small businesses are crucial to Canada’s economic success. They are responsible for creating millions of jobs across the country. Small business entrepreneurs are powering our economy through innovation, job creation and new, exciting ideas. Canada would not be the same without our small business owners

Small businesses are the heart of Canadian communities. They create vibrant cities, beautiful storefronts and promote a family-friendly living environment. Shopping at a small business is a special experience – you cannot get it at a big-box store. Many products are unique and impossible to find anywhere else. Small business owners are reputable and know their products intimately. They are often family-run, handed down from generation to generation. When you buy from a small business, you support local families and local jobs. Small businesses matter to our economy, to our communities, and to our friends and neighbours.

reduce, reuse, recycle

What I wore:
Jacket: Thrifted
Shirt: Lilith, Queen St. Toronto
Tights: Betsey Johnson
Dress: turned skirt, Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Hattitude Jewellery

We saw David Suzuki (Canadian environmentalist) last night at the Western University, with former Chief economist of CIBC, Jeff Rubin talking about The End of Growth. When you get an economist backing up an environmentalist you know it has a bit more punch, or credit with the masses coming from his mouth.

It was a very interesting lecture talking about how our economy cannot keep growing at the rate we've been growing at. Rubin believes all the dips in the economy in the last 50 or 60 years have been caused by the oil price spikes. How the middle east wars are affecting us, in the west, increasing the oil crisis. Because of globalization we feel the affects when the middle east has a war. Suzuki was saying how silly human beings are that our first priority as humans is not the right to clean air (we're polluting it horrendously with all the factories and 'things' we have to own) and our right to natural food (we're poisoning it with all the pesticides and toxins used) our first priority seems to be all about possessions and how many things we can own.

In south American they have actually institutionalized a constitution where the animals, fish, plants and trees have rights, just like humans. There was an oil company dumping into a river, and an american couple who was living in this country (in south america, pardon me, I forget the name of it) actually sued the oil company on behalf of the river. The couple of course did not get any money, but they won, and the company had to restore the river to it's natural state. The river in that country is viewed as having just as much rights as humans,  they've put it in their constitution.  Isn't that wild? How did we as humans become so high and mighty thinking we can just keep taking and taking?
Sure makes me feel good about always shopping from thrift stores!
